Senior Childcare Worker - Ref SS04-197wsfp
SureStart West Somerset provides support for pre-school chidren and their families. Based in Minehead in the first instance and later working from a newly built children's centre in West Somerset, you will work closely with other members of the SureStart team to develop innovative ways of enabling parents to support and nurture their children. You will work within the team in providing individual support to families with complex needs, particularly to those that are less likely to access services. You will provide services in a number of ways such as children centre based, in family homes and on a mobile vehicle.
Within the SureStart team you will be part of the Health and Social care team and receive plenty of support, supervision, professional and personal development. You will have close links with The Hollies, Early Excellence Centre. You will work with families to assist their emotional, social, physical and educational development and be involved in the assesment, monitoring, planning and reviewing the work with families. You will collaborate with the team to provide professional courses as part of a family training programme.

You should have the following:

  • A Cache diploma in Childcare and Education (NNEB), Dip SW, CSS, CQSW, HND/C in Childcare or NVQ in childcare.
  • 3 or more years experience of working with children, and families under stress and in crisis situations.
  • An understanding of child development
  • An ability to communicate effectively and sensitively
  • Self motivation, flexibility, excellent communication and organisational skills.
